Sometimes, as a vegan, it is hard to find a snack that offers great taste, is healthy and not packed with sugar, and gives you a feeling of great satisfaction when you eat it.

Martin and Suzie Cowley, of Cowleys Fine Foods, have the perfect answer to this.

They create a dazzling array of fruit leathers, vegan jerkys and sweets that offer a taste sensation that I have not found anywhere else.  I love their sweet potato and tofu jerkys, and their fruit leathers, which all contain fresh, organic (where possible), real (not processed) fruit, are to die for!  If you attend a festival that they are selling at, I highly recommend that you go and see them.  not only do they offer samples of anything you might wish to try, but they are friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and lots of fun to chat to

cowleys monthly mystery box review

I was recently invited to sample one of the new range of monthly subscription boxes from Cowleys Fine Foods (for transparency, I was given the box in exchange for an honest review, which I have done on their Facebook page, as well as writing this post).  They are offering both meat and veggie/vegan boxes, so everyone is catered for.  The box is available to purchase as a one off, or you can buy a monthly subscription, so you won’t need to reorder, they will simply come to you each month.

I was very excited to open my box, but took a moment to enjoy the characteristically colourful packaging it comes in!

When I opened the box, I got very excited at the range of goodies that were contained in it!

As a former alcoholic, I made the decision not to eat the products containing alcohol, even though Martin assured me that there would be no alcohol left in it.  It wasn’t that I didn’t trust him, far from it, but I felt uncomfortable with eating them, so I gave them to my son, who assured me that they were incredible, and he wished there were more!

The eagle eyes among you will notice that the Spinach and coriander balti jerky packet, tucked away at the back, is actually empty.  I grabbed this as soon as I opened the box, and tucked in before I remembered that I had planned to take a picture of the box!  I have tried this before, and it is incredible!

The Thai Coconut Curry was the next to go.  This was a new one on me, and I have to say, I think i might have found my new favourite from the Cowley’s range.

The hot and smokey jerky does exactly what it says on the tin, it nearly blew the roof of my mouth off.  While I love curry, I am something of a baby when it comes to hot chilli, so I ate about half of this before giving the rest to me eager son.

The fruit leathers were wonderful.  I would be hard pressed to tell you which I preferred out of the two I had in my box, they are such different taste experiences.

A monthly subscription box will always have some items in it that you maybe don’t enjoy as much as others, and while there were items in the box that I wouldn’t or couldn’t eat, others in my family did enjoy them, so it made an idea treat for us all.

If you are looking for a different sort of snack to nibble on, then I cannot recommend Cowleys Fine Foods enough. They offfer a range of products, including a wide range of meat products, which I won’t be sampling obviously, so there really is something for everyone.  Their products are the ideal Christmas gift, and great snacks for your kids as well as you (although you might find that you are fighting the kids for them, I sometimes do 🙂 )

You can find Martin and Suzie on their website , and on Facebook

Happy snacking!
